ABOUT THE MAP REPRINTS
QUALITY:
The maps are printed in black on a soft-white parchment stock. They are very attractive when framed, and make beautiful gifts.
SIZE:
Map size is about 18x24". Double page maps are reproduced at their original size; single page maps are enlarged for clarity in reading names.
When the original map is larger than "18x24" it is reproduced on more than one sheet. These large maps are followed by an indication of the number of sheets. For example, a map followed by the symbol (2) is printed on two sheets.
CONTENT:
The date of the maps is listed under the atlas title.
Most county atlas maps locate individual houses with the owner's name. However, this is often not the case with densely settled areas. Those maps may have the buildings without owners' names, or - in the case of large cities - just the street names. The old atlases from which these maps were reprinted were originally published by several different companies, over a period of many years; they are not consistent in this way.
The term "village" is used in a generic sense. It refers to a map of a built-up portion of a town shown in larger scale than on the town map, and usually in great detail.
