This short book is a record of the Gardner family that was extracted from the book A Genealogical Record of the Descendants of Leonard Headley of Elizabethtown, NJ  By Rev. A. J. Fretz 223p. 1905. It begins with the ancestry of Phebe (Headley) Gardner, and her brother Isaac Headley. Phebe was born 1731 at 'Conn Farms' and married Thomas Gardner in 1750. She died in 1764. Thomas Gardner's name is associated with being indicted on the right of land squabbles and uprisings in what is now Newark, New Jersey. These took place between 1745 to 1748. The contention between the settlers and English proprietors, concerning title to the lands. The settlers held under their Indian title and refused to recognize any other. Suits against the settlers were decided in favor of the proprietors, and many of the former were thrown in jail. (softcover)
