The Behctel family, originating in Hanau, Germany, has branched out to a variety of places such as Bavaria, Baden, and Switzerland. Karl William Bechtel, son of Johannes Bechtel, was born in 1797 in Hanau, Germany. A highly educated individual, he studied law and was honored in many positions of trust such as a Supreme Court attorney until 1836 and later a Supreme Court Judge. This book tells of his ancestors and descendants, his accomplishments, as well as the families of Hook, Kampe, Leopoldt, and Waldburger.
