LOPEZ: Fernam Lopez (Softcover) 1921

  • 1600

by Aubrey Fitz Gerald Bell

Fernam Lopez (c.1380-1460) was successful and honored in his lifetime, however his fame has faded in the last several hundred years. In the year 1418 he was appointed Keeper of the Archives in the Lisbon Torre do Tombo. He was secretary to King Joao I from 1419 until the king's death, and then to his successor. He became private secretary to another of the royal princes, the unfortunate Dom Fernando. There is much more to his fascinating life story. The influence of the Renaissance in Portugal by the conquest by Spain, discoveries, victories, Africa, India were that which the authors wrote about.
