1916. 149p
The Old Settlers' Club of Milwaukee County was formally organized on July 5, 1869, with the aim of reviving old associations and renewing ties of former years. The club's constitution required that members be at least 21 years old and have settled in Milwaukee County prior to January 1, 1839. The club flourished until 1881, when it adopted an amendment to its constitution to make the organization perpetual. In 1882, the club merged with the Early Pioneer Association of Milwaukee County, which had a more restrictive membership requirement. The two organizations held annual banquets together and shared the same objectives. From 1882 to 1889, the annual banquets were held jointly, and the names of members were printed on the menu cards. The Old Settlers' Club continued to exist and grew in membership, eventually incorporating in 1887. The club's rooms contain a collection of books, pictures, and relics related to the history of Milwaukee. The club has held annual banquets and picnics, as well as being involved in the marking of historic sites. The club has had various officers since its organization, with the first president being Horace Chase and the first secretary being Fenimore Cooper Pomeroy.
