ALLISON: NJ - NY Familes: Allison, Davenport, Shawger (Shauger), Wendel (Wandle)

  • 1400

By John Philip Rogers

John Allison was born in New Jersey 1797. Humphrey Davenport was born in the Barbadoes and the first record of him in America was in Kingston, New York and he died in New Jersey 1727. George Shauger came to New Jersey from Germany about 1764. Evert Janssen Wendel (Wendle, Wandel, Wandal, Wandle) settled in Albany, New York around 1642. This book traces back the four families to New Jersey and New York through specific lines and gives plenty of space for supplementary data and notes.

Excellent Genealogy Resource!

John Rogers has done some very comprehensive work on these 4 families, and I've learned a lot about my own family in his book.

It is a fine work, and well worth the reasonable price.

John and his cousin Elizabeth Scarlett Drake also erected cenotaph memorial monuments at Union Cemetery in Marcella, Morris County, New Jersey as a tribute to these early New Jersey and New York families.

Elizabeth's mother was Hester Shawger Scarlett, and John's mother was Mahalia Shawger Rogers, Hester's sister. Both John and Elizabeth are my 3rd cousins, 2x removed.
