This is the history and genealogy of the Chouteau family in France and America.  Rene Auguste Chouteau (1723-1776) was a native of Bearn, France and settler to New Orleans and married to Marie Therese Cerre in 1749. Their son, Auguste Chouteau was born in New Orleans Sept. 17, 1750. As a youth he was in charge of first party of colonists, landed Feb. 1764, on the site of present day St. Louis.
