The Hughes family has been largely represented in Wales, England, Ireland, and America and has many prominent family members who played significant roles through history. Some examples of these are Hugh Hughes a Welsh poet of renown, a descendant of Lord Twrcelyn. His verses are preserved in British Museum. Admiral Sir Richard Hughes was a man of valor. Margaret Hughes was an early actress of the English stage, in 1663. Thomas Hughes, "Tom Brown's School Days" and founder of the rugby colony in Tennessee. Also included in this journal of the Hughes are pioneers, early founders in New England - Richard Hughes, 1640 in Connecticut, Arthur, 1676 of Salem, John, a soldier of Hatfield.
