HUSE: Descendants of Abel Huse of Newbury (1602-1690)
By Harry Pickney Huse
Among the first settlers of Newbury, Massachusetts, these are the descendants of Abel Huse (1602-1690). He was born 1602 in England and came to America with his wife Eleanor, to Newbury, not later than 1635. She died in 1662, leaving no children. He married Mary Hilton, a widow. They had children together. He lived to 1690, his will and an inventory of his estate is shown. The Huse family played an important role in the history of England. It appears in the original copy of the Roll of Battle Abbey that the monks recorded at the command of William the Conqueror. The name has been seen variously Husee, Husie, Hoese, Hussey, and more.
