By William A. Backenstoe

Two Centuries of Kemmerer Family History, 1730-1929. The name is derived from 'Kammerer Herr' 'the keeper of the chamber' or 'the treasurer'. Their history and origin is fascinating. Many of the name came from the Palatinate to America and settled in Penna in the counties of Northampton, Lehigh, Carbon, Berks, and Bucks. Early Kemmerers belonged to the Reformed Church, and upon arrival in America, Lutheran. In 1742 Frederick Kemmerer received a warrant from the proprietors of the Colony of Pennsylvania for 150 acres plus 6% for streets.
