KENNAN: Genealogy of the Kennan family 1907
By Thomas Lathrop Kennan
This book is a record of the history and genealogy of the Kennan family to 1907. Richard Kennon, so spelled, came to America prior to 1670 living below Petersburg, Virginia. He was a merchant and became a large land owner and planter. He married Elizabeth Warsham. The Kennan name became prominent in VA. One Richard served as a General in the Revolutionary War and later Thomas Jefferson appointed him as first Governor of Louisiana. "I think we have a right to feel some pride in having descended from the valiant pioneers who laid the foundation of our great Republic, and in the fact that our ancestors helped to achieve its independence..."
