Kerley, Cearley, and Carley families of the South. The names was spelled variously on different documents and the census reports for 1820 recorded William Carley Sr as Kerley, and his son in the same neighborhood spelled Kerby. The family was among the very early settlers to America, among them in 1638 were two men Edmund and William, named Kerley. Typescript.
