This booklet provides a record of the Kistler family, descended from George Kistler, Jr. of Berks County, Pennsylvania. Various spellings include Kister, Kester, Kisiler, Kiesler, Kesler, Kessler, Kishler, and more. The meaning is box maker or chest maker. The family was in Switzerland and Germany prior to emigration to Penna. George reportedly owned what later became the Dietrich Mill 2 mi W of Kutztown in the lower point of Greenwich Township. He may have gotten his father Jürg KISTLER’s original mill.Typescript.
