KITE FAMILY A Fragmentary Sketch of the family from its Origin in the 9th Century
By Virginia A. Kite
This book provides a historical sketch of the Kite family from its origin in the 9th Century. James Kite came to America in 1680. In America, much of the Kite family information relative to the earliest ancestors was obtained from the records of The Society of Friends that were carefully preserved in the Marion Meeting House and Radnor Meeting House (in Pennsylvania). Persecution of families that didn't go along with the state church in Europe was at a high and the Kite family records show us they were among them. "Gloucester 1660", " Thomas and William Kite sent to prison for refusing to pay tithe and swear allegiance to the King." "Dorcetshire" Thomas Kite discharged from prison after serving nine years for refusing to swear." "Oxfordshire, 1658" "Richard Kite and others imprisoned. 1662, Richard and William Kite fined for not attending chuch."
