The genealogy details the lineage of the descendants of William Lane, of Boston, 1651, William of Hampton, New Hampshire 1685, and Deacon Joshua Lane of Hampton, who was killed by lightning June 14, 1766. One variation of the spelling is Layne. In addition to the Lane lineage, are insights into the Young Men's Society, an association formed before 1741 at which time Samuel Lane, son of Dea Joshua, under a constitution of fourteen articles, with twenty-three members. In that year there was a great religious awakening in Hampton, and many were added to the church. This Young Men's Society was an honored agency of the Holy Spirit, promoting works of grace.
