In order to gain a proper perspective, we might note the arrival of ancestor, Peter Lehman, in America during the early part of the 18th century, against a background of early American history, at that time Benjamin Franklin was a boy growing up in New England, George Washington had not yet been born, Philadelphia was a small town of 500 population, New York was a Village on Manhattan Island, and Lancaster County, Pennsylvania was a wilderness on the frontier.
