The Leighton name occurs in some of the oldest annals of English and Scotch history, and this book delves into the first of the name, early family estates, the coat of armour, and prominent family members throughout the years. We see Henry De Lychton of Inverdovat in the County of Fife, a relative of William of 1260, William of 1291 and the William of 1296. Walter in 1512, Sir Alexander, a brother to the Bishop of Aberdeen. The spelling is various and also includes Leighton, Leyghton, and Layton.
This 1940 publication is a genealogical account of the Leighton family of Dover, New Hampshire, Thomas Leighton of Dover Point b. 1604; d. 1672; was born near Glasgow, Scotland and immigrated to Dover, New Hampshire in 1633. Descendants lived in New Hampshire, Maine, and elsewhere.
