The Leighton name occurs in some of the oldest annals of English and Scotch history, and this book delves into the first of the name, early family estates, the coat of armour, and prominent family members throughout the years. We see Henry De Lychton of Inverdovat in the County of Fife, a relative of William of 1260, William of 1291 and the William of 1296. Walter in 1512, Sir Alexander, a brother to the Bishop of Aberdeen. The spelling is various and also includes Leighton, Leyghton, and Layton.
This 1997 publication is a genealogical account of the ancestors and nine generations of descendants of George Leighton (b 1718) and Jean Guthrie, his second wife whom he married in 1765. They lived in West Ogil, Tannadice Parish Angus shire (Forfarshire), Scotland in the eighteenth century. From there It delves into the American descendants.
