By Nelson Burton Lent

From Holland to America, this is the history of the Lent (van Lent) family in the United States, sharing genealogical and biographical data from 1638-1902. Abraham Riker or de Ryck, emigrated from the Netherlands around 1638. He was married to Gertie Hermanson. Some of the early descendants of Abraham Riker changed the surname to van Lent, meaning of or from Lent. Lent is the village in Nigmejen in which Abraham Riker’s ancestors were from. Van Lent was then shortened to simply Lent after several generations.
