Major John Lillie, 1755-1801, was the son of John and Abigail Breck Lillie. Through his parents he was connected with well known families such as the Hutchinsons on his father's side and the Brecks, Shaws, and Crufts on his mother's side. His father died when he was young, and so he spent time with his uncle Samuel Breck as an apprentice. When he was entering manhood he began his career as a soldier, in 1755. He was a distinguished soldier during the American Revolution and a member of the Massachusetts legislature. The book provides a detailed account of the Lillie family's history, tracing their roots back to the early colonial period. It covers the family's involvement in the American Revolution and their contributions to the growth and development of Boston. Also shown; are the descendants of Major Johns sisters.
