  • 7500

By Charles Henry Pope, with Katharine P. Loring

This 1917 publication takes a look at the Loring family, providing their history and genealogy. From the Intro: The first Loring seems to have been Robert, a poet, mathmatician and architect, who built the Cathedral of Hereford and was made bishop of that in 1279. Other notable Lorings are mentioned, such as Sir Pers, an active citizen knighted in the reign of King Henry III and granted a coat of arms. Provided are records from English parishes, abstracts of wills obtained, and records from the earliest settlers to America. Deacon Thomas Loring, founder of the American family was born at Axminster, Devonshire, England. He married Jane Newton and came to Hingham (New England) in 1634.
