This publication explores the history of the Lunt family in America and especially the ancestry of Abel Lunt, 1769-1806, of Newbury, MA. The name is of Scandinavian origin, being common in Denmark, spelled Lundt. One of the first Lunt in America was Henry Lunt who settled at Newbury, Massachusetts in 1634/5. He died in 1662. Included is the inventory of his estate, which was proved on the 30th of September, 1662, at Ipswich court. The Lunt family had many allied families, including Coker, Pettingill, Ingersoll, Noyes, and others, with connections to England.
