Extracted From "Some Virginia Families," by H.M. McIlhany, Jr.,1903. It shows the reader that John McIlhany of Scotland was the founder of the family in America. He was an ardent supporter of Charles Edward, the 'Young Pretender', grandson of James II of England, and followed him faithfully from the time he landed in Scotland in 1745, untill his final defeat at Culloden Moor, in 1746. Survivors of this unfortunate struggle were compelled to leave the country immediately.
