These are the early records of the English Merrits, showing Henry Merritt of Scituate, Massachusetts, from Kent England one of the early settlers of Scituate. He took the oath of fidelity, not the freeman's oath, which implies his land was purchase, not allotted. He was married and had children, and died in Nov., 1652.  Note the various spellings of the name.
