MESSER: The Messers of Western Carolina and East Tennessee 2001
By Robert J. Medford & Constanza R. Medford
The Messers of Western North Carolina and East Tennessee. The first generation starts with Captain Robert Messer, (presumably) the father of Christian Sergeant Messer. His hanging is a matter of public record. He participated in the War of Regulation, Battle of Alamance, May 16, 1771. The article states Christian Messer intervened for his father, Capt Messer the Regulator, by offering his life for that of his father.. There were six that day who were hanged by the British for treason, after being given a choice to hang or swear allegiance to Great Britain.
*Two volume book available. Vol 1: Generations 1 to 8. Vol 2: includes the ninth through twelfth generations descending from Captain Robert Messer.
