MILLIGAN: The House of Milligan. 1930

  • 6000

J. C. K. Milligan

The House of Milligan, from 1650-1930, containing historic records of family members, and those who joined by marriage. James Milliken is the first of the family in this record. He was born in Scotland near the village of Ayrshire. The family had a farming estate. Not a lot is known about him, however we know he was a member of the Established Church of Scotland. After his death, about 1725, his son Alexander (1700-1785) became inheritor of the land. Alexander was twice married, first to Jane Demster, and secondly to Margaret Milligan, in 1779. With his first wife they had a son John, and with his second wife two sns Thomas and James. James was born two months before his father passed. He was named James after his grandfather Milliken. After his death his wife continued to use her own name rather than that of her husband. From that point on the name Milliken is lost to this record, and the name Milligan prevails. James came to America and settled in Pennsylvania.
