During the battle for Guam, the Marines encountered fierce resistance as they fought to secure the island. The landing was met with heavy machine-gun, mortar, and rifle fire, making progress difficult. Despite the challenging terrain and enemy fortifications, the Third Marines persevered, clawing their way up the ridge towards high ground overlooking the beaches.

In another instance, the 2nd Battalion, Twenty-first Marines faced stubborn enemy opposition in a ravine. The Marines called for air support, leading to a successful attack with over two hundred Japanese soldiers killed. This victory allowed the 1st Battalion, Third Marines, to maneuver around and capture strategic high ground that had been a significant obstacle.

The battle saw intense action, with Marines engaging in close combat to eliminate enemy pillboxes and defend against enemy Zeros strafing the ships and beaches. Despite initial challenges and limited ammunition, the Marines displayed courage and determination, ultimately prevailing in the face of adversity.
