The Orangeburg Presbyterian Church was founded on May 2, 1835, with 15 initial members and Rev. I. S. Keith Legare as its first pastor. Significant milestones include the first communion in August 1835 and the acquisition of church property through the Ladies Society. The church initially included slaves as full members until 1866, utilized a "Merchant House" for services until 1844, and rebuilt after a fire in 1857, while maintaining detailed membership records throughout its history.
