In 1705, Bonaventure sent soldiers to retrieve the King's bark, La Galliarde, but their misbehavior led them to Boston instead, highlighting issues of discipline within the ranks. After the death of Governor Brouillan at sea, Monsieur Subercase assumed leadership and, in 1709, took proactive measures by recruiting 75 men at Minas to strengthen defenses against potential English attacks, reflecting the ongoing tensions in the region. The systematic land distribution for New England planters was designed to create homesteads that included both arable and pasture land, facilitating agricultural development. This initiative eventually led to the establishment of the settlements of Aylesford and Wilmot, which began years after 1761. The British solidified their control over Acadia following the surrender of Beausejour in 1755, marking a significant shift in territorial governance and colonial dynamics in the region.
