During the Philippine-American War, Colonel Stotsenburg and his officers conducted reconnaissance missions through insurgent lines, which were perilous even before hostilities began. Life in camp was monotonous, focused on drilling and discipline to prepare the men for the challenging climate. The regiment received a warm welcome in San Francisco, where they were celebrated by crowds and provided with provisions, before embarking on their campaign in the Philippines, facing intense enemy fire and significant casualties in subsequent battles.
