This collection brings the history of Detroit and Mackinac and the surrounding areas, and those who settled the area from the personal and family papers of John Askin. He lived from 1762-1815, was born in Ottawa, Canada and played a vital role in the towns of Mackinac and Detroit. Detroit had been under British rule for a generation and then the territory was passed into the posession of America. Askin's loyalty was to the British flag.
