The majority of the Bisphams who live in America trace their descent from the family of Lancashire, England, to Joseph Bispham of Bickerstaffe, born an only child to John and Mary in 1678. John was a preacher of the Society of Friends, who suffered persecution and was ill treated, as were his brethren.
