CALEF: Robert Calef of Boston & Some of His Descendants. 1940
Anne Calef Boardman
A historical account of the Calef family, Robert Calef of Boston Mass, and his descendants. He was born in England about 1648, showed friendliness for the persecuted Quakers and therefore became so unpopular at home that he sought asylum in New England. During the time of the 'Witch Trials" in 1692 he championed the cause of the poor wretches accused of witchcraft and opposed the all - powerful Clergy with saneness and common sense. Because of this he was sent to Roxbury. This is a continuation of the book by William Wallace Lunt, 1928.
