These two families, Gedney and Clarke, had settled in New England in the Salem area, and were connected with distinguised families both in England and America. John Gedney was admitted an inhabitant of Salem at "a towne meeting ye 7th of 6th moneth," 1637, having recently arrived from England. His wife was Sarah.
