This is the genealogy and historical account of the ancient Gordon family of Pitlurg, Scotland, and specifically of Thomas Gordon, who came to America in 1684 and settled in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. His father was Robert Gordon the 7th Laird of Pitlurg. Accompanying Thomas on the eight week voyage to America were his wife Helen, and four children, seven servants and two of his brothers, Charles and George and they were seeking 'liberty of worship, conscience and quietness of life' which were denied him in the land of his birth. As a young man he became aquainted with Robert Barclay (1648-1690) a celebrated Scottish Quaker. We see his writings as he described the voyage and new life.
