HAMMER: The Hammers and Allied families, with their family circles centering in Pendleton County, West Virginia 1950

  • 2400

By Elsie Byrd Boggs

This publication shares the Hammers and and Byrd families, with other allied families, and genealogies. There are family reunions and stories, including Civil War reminisciences and letters showing the tragedy of war, local inventions and operations of grist mills, and a map of Pendleton County, West Virginia where a focus is centered. The first chapter gives a vivid description of the first house - a log fort - a "Frontier Fort" and how it was planned and built, by hand, and especially to withstand constant peril of Indian enemies.
