By Roland Hammond
The history and genealogy of William and Elizabeth (Penn) Hammond is recorded from 1600 to 1894, through their son, Benjamin who lived in Sandwich and Rochester, Massachusetts. William and Elizabeth were married in London, England. She was sister to the Admiral, Sir William Penn and aunt to William Penn, the Quaker. Their children were all born in London. They were Benjamin, Elizabeth, Martha, and Rachel. After William died, widow Elizabeth with the children came to New England on the ship 'Griffen' during the troublesome times of 1634. They left a good estate in London. Elizabeth (Penn) Hammond died in 1640.
