  • 6500

By Helena Goodale Hargrave

With fearless spirit, forsaking their native land to combat the hardships and dangers of a new world, were the members of the Society of Friends, better known as the Quakers. For conscience sake and not for gain, they were among the early colonists to take up life in the American wilds.  Provided in these pages are fourteen generations of Hargrave descendants, beginning in 1534 Nicholas Hargrave of Wakefield. An account of the Hargrave family in America begins with Richard Hargrave, born in England in 1614 (1614-1686/87). He was twenty years of age when he sailed to the Virginia Colony. Three month later Robert and Katherine Goodale, with their children, left England and landed at Massachusetts Colony. Two hundred plus years later two descendants of these colonists were joined in marriage in California. Family charts are included.
