HARRISON: Partial history of the Harrison family.
By V. Harrison
It was long believed the Harrisons of Virginia were descended of Col. John Harrison, friend of Cromwell. The first family in Virginia was that of Honorable Benjamin Harrison of Surry (1645-1712), who had three sons, one was Benjamin Harrison, of Berkely married to Elizabeth Burwell. They had a son Benjamin, Jr. and a daughter Elizabeth. Benjamin Harrison Jr. was many years in the House of Burgesses, was elected to the first Congress, he was a chairman and reporter and a signer of the Declaration of Independence which passed on July 4, 1776.
