HART of My Heart: The Life of Reuben Hart 2003
Roger A. Hart
This book shows the various branches of Harts, a few prominent members, as well as when and where they settled in America after their perilous journey. Edmund, Deacon Stephen, Ephraim, John Hart (grandfather to John, the signer of the Declaration of Independence), Henry, Samuel, Thomas and more. They came from England, Scotland and Ireland. They were looking for a better life, free from the religious persecution that was in full force in England. Forced membership in the Church of England did not work for the Quakers. And after the Revolutionary War was over, in 1783 somewhere in North CArolina, was born Reuben Hart. He was born into a family that had been in America over 150 years. His immigrant ancestor is believed to be Henry Hart of Surry County, Virginia. The name was also spelled Harte, Hartt, Heart, Hearte.
