HESS: Genealogical Record of the Descendants of Nicholas Hess, Pioneer Immigrant, 50th Anniversary Edition: 1962

  • 7000

by Alice Hess Schlegal

This is the 50th Anniversary Edition, condensed and compiled from the 1912 Asher L. Hess book.

It gives a brief background and history of the Hess family, with it's origin in Germany, and those who were early immigrants to America. They began to arrive in America prior to 1727.  The focus is on the history and genealogy of Nicholas Hess, one of the pioneer Immigrants, and his descendants. Discussion also involves how the Mennonites played an important role in the shaping of America, for example making the first public protest against buying and selling slaves in 1688 in Germantown, Pennsylvania.
