HUGHES and allied families 1879
By D. D. & W. H. Hughes
The following pages are designed to include a complete history of the descendants of Henry F. and Bardwell Hughes, and an account of the Bowen family and other allied families including Tuttle, Dennison, Boykim, Brown, Granger, Whedon, Cody, Jones, and Brackett. The book reads as biographical, and begins with the Tuttle family; William Tuttle came from London, England to Boston in the ship Planter, in 1635 with his wife and family. Also Richard and John Tuttle, and families. Five generations of descent are given to show the direct line to the Hughes. Lydia Tuttle married Henry Freeman Hughes. The Hughes family is of great antiquity and prominence. As we see many members of the name holding offices of importance, such as James Hughes, of Penna, a member of Washington's body guard in 1773. Joseph Hewes was a signer of the Declaration of Independence. George Robert Hughes a name associated with the Boston Tea Party in 1773, and service to his country.
