HUNTOON: Ancestors and descendants of the Iowa Huntoons 1971

  • 5500

By Joe Crockett Huntoon, Jr.

Philip Hunton, the immigrant ancestor of the branch in New England, came to America when he was a boy. He was born about 1664, upon emigration he was employed by a man at Exeter, New Hampshire, named Hall. He married his daughter, Betsy Hall in 1687.  He lived to 1752. These are his descendants, the center of interest being on two half-brothers who came to Iowa to seek their fortune and raise their families. The word Hunton is of Saxon origin and is of great antiquity. Variations of the spelling include Hanton, Hinton, Honton, Hynton, Huntoon, and more.
