  • 8000

By Henry H. Hurlbut

It is important to note the variations of the spelling of this name, some being Hurlbert, Hurlburt, Hurlbut, Hulbert. The emigrant ancestor's Christian name was (Thomas) Hurlburt and he came across the Atlantic in 1635, a soldier under Lion Gardiner, who had command of the Fort at Saybrook, Connecticut. He was wounded by an arrow in an encounter with the Pequot Indians in 1637. Mr. Hurlburt was by trade a blacksmith, and after the war with the Pequots established business in Wethersfield, CT . He was one of the early settlers there and the first blacksmith. This genealogy provides both paternal and maternal descendants to 1888, with an index of all names in the book, including wives before marriage.
