John Walker Kirby

A Three Family history and genealogical record of the Kirby Family, the Durkee Family and the Walker Family. Edward Kirby was born in. Buckinghamshire, England in 1783. He was 19 when seized by a gang  into the service of the British Navy, sent on board the ship "Leopard" and ordered to cruise off the coast of Arabia. He was mistreated, attempted escape, tortured and then transferred to a ship that sailed to America. He and the crew, except for the officers, later escaped into North Carolina when the ship hit land. While hunting for them an American ship was fired upon and indirectly brought on the War of 1812. The British Government offered a reward of 500 pound stirling for his capture. He later went on to New York where he married Anna Platt.
