This book gives an account of the Kling family ancestry and genealogical history of John Ludwig Kling and his descendants, from 1755-1924. History informs us that when Louis XIV of France conquered the Palatinate or lower Germany he found himself unable to maintain his conquest and to prevent the enemy's army reoccupying the country he ordered its devastation by 'sword and fire.' The hundred thousand homeless Palatinates as well as Huguenots fled to Protestant countries. Their troubles were not over when they arrived in America.
