LANTZ Family record, being a brief account of the Lantz family in the United States 1931

This is an account of the Lantz family in the United States. Of German stock, they came to America as early as 1710. The name came through changes, was shortened from Landsknecht, or Lantzknecht to Lantz or Lanz, early in the 16th century. Most came to America due to religious persecution. Christian Lantz, of Maryland, bor in Lancaster, Penna. He was a brother to Hans (John) of Caernarvon Twp, Penna. The author tells of life growing up, leaving home at the age of twelve, his father and his role as a justice during the Civil War. Orders were issued by the Northern officer to arrest his father for he was a trial justice and Colonel Rinker who commanded the soldiers that allowed them to be mobbed. They were ordered to burn their dwellings, his house was burned but only after they gave his slaves ten minutes to carry out household goods. His father was arrested then released.
