By George Warren Chappelear

Vol. I  The Leake family is of ancient origin, and It is likely that the Leake family came to England from Normandy as the name was first spelled de Lec. Many Leakes came to Virginia in the early years of the colony. Among them was John Leake 1635, Andrew 1642, Richard, 1639 and more. Others came to New York and Massachusetts. The focus is on this name in Virginia, as they have fairly accurate records. William Leake settled in Goochland Cty in 1685.
