These are the descendants of Robert McClanahan, of Ireland and settled in Augusta County, Virginia. Robert McClanahan (d. 1791), who came from Ireland with his brothers, married Sarah Breckinridge and had several children, including Alexander, John, Robert, William, and daughters who married into other families. His deeds to 331 acres of land dated May 27, 1741, is on record in Orange Courthouse, Va. There was no clerks office in Augusta Cty until 1745. His wife Sarah was daughter of Alexander Breckenridge who came to America from North of Ireland in 1728.
