This book gives an account of the genealogy of William McElwee, II of Clarks Fork of Bullocks Creek, York Co., SC. William McElwee II (1718-1807) was the son of William McElwee I of County Tyronne, Ireland. According to tradition, his grandfather came to Ireland from County Ross, Scotland and was a member of the Clan Ross. William II and his brother David emigrated to America in 1750 and landed at Philadelphia, PA. William married Janet Black (1738-1825) in 1757 in PA. They moved to Brunswick Co., VA which is now Greenville Co., VA. 

Their first three children were born in VA: James (b.1758), William III (b.1762) and John Calvin (b.1765). In the summer of 1765, they moved their family to Clarks Fork of Bullock's Creek in York District of South Carolina, which was being settled by Scotch and Irish settlers. They were the parents of eight children. The last five were: Eleanor (b.1766), Agnes (b.1770), Ann (b.1771), May (b.1772) and Elizabeth (b.1774). A line of descent is given for all of their children's descendants.
